It depends on how you look at it. As Americans, we know how we live, and, after the age of 16, we generally know what is normal and what is not, especially when Hollywood features abnormally good-looking (or, ugly people they MAKE good-loooking) people in their films, in abnormal situations, and with abnormally high chances of succeeding in the antagonizing situation in which they've been placed. We know that not everyone has a mansion, not everyone is anorexic, and that it's normal to have to save money to get what we want instead of maxing out daddy's credit card. However, if you look at it from the viewpoint of every other country in the world, Hollywood is most definitely the first thing that foreigners base their opinion on, mostly because they've never been here, so how would they know the difference? My very logical and intellectual German internet correspondant believed reindeer to live in Pennsylvania, based on the fact that they have been see in movies. She was also led to believe that it was totally normal for Americans to go to parties, underage (during high school), and get drunk - and, although many DO do this, it's not nearly as accepted as the films lead one on to believe. Hollywood often times also represent [incorrectly] ALL Americans as being inept, uneducated, and downright stupid, and, just because I realize this, I am not a part of this generalized view, and I would be grateful if I weren't just dropped into such a category. It's no wonder that those of the Middle East believe we are the devil - if you watch America's filmographical history and full compilation of films objectively and seriously think about what those films are almost delineating about our society, you would think that it was a horror film from the Soviet Union of corruption and chaos too.

No, a good example is I live in Lancaster County PA where the movie Witness was filmed (just a couple of miles away from me). The movie has so many discrepancies it is pathetic. Sorry but in all the years I've lived here the tourists tended to be enamoured of the Amish not abusive (the spit in the face--puhhhllleeeassse). Amish have real live bathrooms not washbasins (bathrooms required by law). Plus they are more aware of English culture than portrayed.

No Hollywood tends to bend life to fit it's story not the other way around.

usually no, but sometimes they get it right. it's more like a stopped clock which is correct twice a day. i think hollywood portrays americans as richer, better looking, more materialistic, and dumber than the average american really is. there are people out there that are just like the ones on tv, but i think they are the exceptions rather than the rule. also, i think it is worthy of noting that washington doesn't represent america any better than hollywood these days, perhaps worse.

Its mostly Jewish propaganda.I have little to do with it.theres a conspiracy going on.to influince people to be a certain way.The South is mostly portrayed as being lower in the social scale then other parts of the country which is wrong. Southerners make up the true mainstream of America

Not really. I'm not blowing up terrorists, or having hot unprotected sex or forcing people to saw off a limb to survive.

The sad part is my slice of life is very dull and boring, so I need these stories to elevate myself
