I have a 2004 Aveo. The transmission fluid was changed in the spring because it was black and smelled burnt. When I took it to the dealership, the gave me the run around, so I just had my regular technician change the fluid at my cost. Now the fluid is black again. Is this a sign that there's a problem with my transmission? Is this a manufacturer's defect? What should I do?

if the fluid is black and smells burnt it is because it is toast ! you have had clutches slipping and now they are just burnt so bad they will not ever be fixable with just a fluid change. you will have to rebuild it. good luck

Doyou have a habit of leaving the car in gear waiting in very long traffic jams etc. The gearbox will overheat in this case which could cook your oil. In long jams, always put your gear lever into neutral or park. You should have a warning light on your dashboard if there is any probs with the gearbox or if it is overheating. Have your gearbox serviced at an autobox specialist, don't worry it doesn't cost the earth as the box stays in the car, I use to take my auto volvos in for a gearbox service back in early 90's at a cost of around £60, afterwards the car was like new.

Hope I( have helped you.

It should not be black. Try adding a transmission cooler. Generally overheating the transmission causes it to burn the oil.

Check to make sure there wasn't a recall on it.If not, there is a product called Lube Guard that might help.NAPA and other places sells it.

It SOUNDS like either the bands are worn,or you have sticky shutters.

you got a problem unless you love the car, change the fluid again and trade it in quick.
