After reading the other answers, I have a suggestion. In the laundry Isle, either in Wal-mart or your grocery store, if your problem stems from hard water, there is an additive that conditions the water in your washer. I am not sure of the name, butit has been around for a long long time. Also, check the label on the hankies, and find what they are made of. Knowing that could save you some frustrating moments. Then go to this website.... http://www.fabrics.net/fabricca.asp you will be able to look up the fabric and it will be able to tell you how to care for the fabric. I hope this helps... ~Happy Holidays~

You may have very hard water wherever you live.
Try using fabric softener when you wash these handkerchieves.
