Warp drive is a fictional faster-than-light propulsion system from Star Trek. The power to use warp drive comes from the mixing of matter and antimatter, regulated by dilithium crystals in a warp core. The ship is protected from the stretching and compressing of space, by means of a warp field generated by the nacelles.

1. a fictional propulsion system in Star Trek thought to burn matter and antimatter.

2. the harddisk in a Computer running OS/2 Warp (was an old operating systems similar to windows)

theories state that space can be warped (distorted) by using high ammounts of energy. theoretically energy is another interpretation of mass. mass curves or warps space
so the idea was to create a propulsion which is capable using energy to warp space and using that to move a spaceship
But this is just in theory.
A warp drive does not exist, hence it inspires authors to write stories about it.

A drive system based on the idea of warping space around a ship to allow it to out speed light. Thought to be pure science fiction by most main steam researchers, recently some theorist have came foreword with some ideas about using very intense magnetic fields to cause the effect.

Warp Drive is am imaginary FTL (Faster Than Light) propulsion system used in the "Star Trek" fictional universe. It is postulated to work by "warping" space.

warp drive... some stupid idea of star trek to travel faster than the speed of light....
it's the idea to bend space-time that much that you travel faster than light.... it doesn't work like that!
you'd have to create a hole in our space-time, open up a window into subspace and back into our spacetime....
.....pretty complex and you cannot predict where you come out since it's all uncertain since quantum mechanics has to apply in this case (black holes are the only known big phenomena where quantum mechanics apply)

so in order to travel faster than the speed of light you'd have to use a wormhole (it's basically the same as a black hole, only it's made of anti-matter in stead of matter -which makes it more stable for normal matter to pass through)
so you'd have a slim chance of coming back where you started from (you might have travelled back in time, but at least you are where you belong)

but first find or create a wormhole and then I'll tell you more
