My dining room table is cherry with beveled glass inserts in two large pieces. I have a tiny chink out of the one side. Is there any way to repair it or do I have to bite the bullet and spend several hundred dollars to get two new pieces? The glass place cannot make just one, they say. They won't match.

Get used to the taste of bullets! If you have the piece, and if you're careful, you could try crazy glue as a temporary fix, then turn the glass over so the repaired area isn't so visible. However, there isn't any permanent fix for chipped or broken glass.
