yes, you should be concerned about this...if you smelled something burning then most likely something was buring, probably wires inside the switch...could be anywhere from a short in the wireing to a water leak in the walls, i would contact a professional electrician asap, before you house burns down....good luck and for your safety please call a electrican asap

Yes, sparks and smell indicate something is wrong with the switch.
Get someone who knows what they are doing to replace it. The electricity to that circuit must be shut off before replacing the switch. Electricity is dangerous! Do not let anyone who is not qualified try to fix it.
Get the switch replaced as soon as possible. Sparks and heat from bad circuits have been known to start fires.

Time to change the switch also have your wiring checked out by a LICENSED electrician not a friend who has a screwdriver and a flashlight

YES DEFINATLY! That's not something normal that just happens. If you live in an apartment, let your lanlord know that you are having this problem. The wiring in your home is probably faulty or very out of date. This could cause an electrical fire, very very dangerous. Take care of this asap!

yes find the breaker for it and turn it off. I'm a electrician. with any luck the switch will trip the breaker before it melts it into the wall and starts a fire.but you really should find the breacker
