Just spilt veg oil down one beautiful brown boot which has stained much darker. Any suggestions?

fold paper towels up and place on the oil to draw out as much as possible

Blot up as much oil as you can, and take it to a dry cleaner. If they can't help, take it to a shoe repair shop. If they can't help, buy a quart of oil, and cover the rest of the boot and the other one, so they match, at least.
