I am married and not getting divorced, however I am currently using my married name which I plan to drop and only use my maiden name.
Will I have a hard time with the SS office? I know my maiden name is legally still my name but since im dropping my husband's name, will it be difficult to do so?

They will Not take your Maiden Name, your not in the Major Computer that way anymore. Go Change everything back first, find the office in your State, that you go to. I have no Idea! But I do know you won't get SS on you maiden name. Next time you get married, it is not a requirement that the woman change her name, just because of this exact same reason. If you Drive, go there first, take your birth certificate, your Final Divorce papers, and I think they will do it, and once you have one changed the rest is easy. Now you can go to SS - birth certificate, driver's licence, and divorce papers! Merry Christmas...

All you have to do is bring your marriage certificate and your birth certificate to the social security office and tell them that you want to change your name from your married name back to your maiden name and they should ablige. It is not at their discretion to keep you from using your maiden name because that is your choice and its still your legal name. If they give you a hard time, ask to speak to a case manager.

If your marriage license is signed with your married name then that is your legal name. When you changed your name with the SS office you must have presented proof that your name changed! So, in order to go back to your maiden name you will have to have some documentation proving it was changed back.

you will need to go in to the S.S. office and get a new S.S. card with your maiden name on it. The S.S. office will not have a problem with you using your maiden name but the I.R.S. will.
I did the name change thing and didn't get a new card until the I.R.S. sent me a letter saying they were going to start fining me 5000.00 a day. They gave me 6 weeks to get it done. before the fine was going to start...go to the S.S. office and talk to them.. it only takes about 10 minutes to fill out paper work...

You bet, they will make you use your legal name, if you do not they will not issue a card to you and get this, they told me if I did not have it done (which in my case would be by the court) then they would report me to the IRS. Now would that pain me? But how overbering and insulate they were and said, "they would make no special exception for anyone."

no, you will just need to go to the social security office and file paperwork, you may also, before that, need to go to the county clerks office, to officially change your name back, since you have assumed your husbands name for awhile, im not sure what the rules on it are,,,,

The federal government doesn't have a problem with maiden names. It's just when you get to the state and local governments do you run into problems.
