I think Aztec has it. He counted the stops. I have also heard, though it doesn't apply to your story, that some blind people can make small noises and hear the difference when the noise is reflected of of objects and when they dont to know where to walk and what kind of object may be in front of them wood, plastic, etc. Pretty interesting. I saw it on TV in a documentary about the progression of skills the blind can attain.

My granddad (passed away now) was registered blind.
Never wanted a dog as he was allergic, he often took the bus in2 Town.
He either counted the stops or asked other passengers or the bus-driver. Mayb where u live that isn't an option, but here in the UK there r still genuine people around.
He said as his eyes failed his other senses became more sensitive.
Smell, hearing and yes indeed a sense of direction and knew what people 2 avoid, smelling trouble in the air.
I miss him making me a cup of tea, how did he do it?
He placed his fingers inside the rim & stopped pouring when he burnt his fingers. He always had burns but refused help, he managed in a way that would shame some lazy ignorant lay-abouts!

On my walk to the station, I was often overtaken by someone marching purposefully in the same direction. He always said good morning as he strode past. One day, he was waiting outside my house. He asked if I could go with him to the station. He said he was blind. He had heard me walking to the station every day, but today he had a bad cold and couldn't hear the lampposts.

No he wouldn't be able to count the stops because there's no guarantee that the bus would stop at each and every one of them. So there goes that theory. Maybe he had asked the driver to stop at his stop for a certain length of time so that he would know?

they may be blind but they make up for it in other ways, maybe he was just partially sighted, but i dont think he would rely on counting the stops as the bus may not have stopped at every one!

They use their other senses to get about. If they use the same bus every day, they get to know the feel of the road, they get to know familiar smells & sounds - or most of the time, they just ask someone where they are!!!
