Replacing the speakers for units with bigger cones will not give a bigger bass. There is a physical law which states that as mass increases, the energy required to make it move the same distance will be greater. As such to get the same low end response you would have to drive the speakers harder. There is also the fact that the bigger the driver is, the longer it takes to return to its natural state. This also alters the sound of a speaker in terms of phase and THD+N (Total Harmonic Distortion + Noise). Some people will say it's better but it's a less accurate reproduction of the origianl sound.

I hate all in in 'hifi' systems because they aren't all of that. They are gimmecky and although the features are ok, they're eq's and 'bass boost' facilities are just nonsense. Very extreme and artificial sounding, and done by cheap DSP.
However for the money, I'd look at either a panasonic or Sony setup. They are very similar, and both have seperate subs to allow grater flexibility and control over your bass.

Sony do good mini systems, which often have a bass expander to make it sound fuller. Ok its applying lots of Eq but the result is quite good. Get one with the most watts you can afford and look for ipod connection as that will be useful. £200 isnt a lot for hifi, if you can afford more and your want bass, look at replacing the speakers with ones with a bigger woofer (cone).

Under £200 is not going to be easy, but check out the Richer Sounds web site (they have shops all over the U.K.) Sorry no link but a google will find it, does your dad know about the extra bass rider?
