This question needs more detail - you will find rich and poor plastic surgeons just like you will find rich and poor in every profession. If you asked "can a footballer own a £1m house " then the answer is the same - it depends how good he is. To be a top earning plastic surgeon you will not only need to be amazing at performing surgery but at marketing and running a business, and finding the niches and opportunities and maximising them

You could be an amazing plastic surgeon working in a firm where everyone gets paid a normal £30-40k salary and the big money goes to the bosses.

So all we can say is, plastic surgery like nearly all serious highly trained professions has the potential to get you a £1 million house - however, how much money you make depends on how keenly you find the opportunities and how good a business person you are also.

I'm not sure how docs in the UK are paid due to socialized medicine, but in the US plastic surgeons make tons of money. I live in an area of less than 500K people and we have at least 100 plastic surgeons. The one I've used (an accident, not vanity) lives VERY comfortably . . .we were comparing construction projects as were both building houses during one of my procedures.

Remember that everything is relative, and even doctors that make a lot of money can appear very wealthy on the outside because of their status but not be "rich." They buy the mansions, the sports cars, go on the exotic trips, but can hardly make their credit card payments. I know several MD's in that situation. I caution you to live within your means, and wish you the best of luck on your upcoming career.

Are you an artist? if not you will probably make money and be moderately happy in your chosen career, However if you are an artist and really enjoy the challenge of creating beauty or normalcy to the human body, that expensive house and trophy spouse with 2 1/2 kids is yours. Go for it and don't sell yourself short.

The interest on a L1million mortgage at 6% is L 60,000 per year, plus the amortization (another L 40,000 ? ), so, if you can pay about L 100,000 in annual house payments, whatever your profession, then you can own the house.
