It tells me I am in immediate danger of my computer being corrupted. Some of the sites are winreg, msregistry, patchupdate, etc. Is this just bs so I will buy some software or is it necessary? If not, how do I stop the popups? Thanks

Sometimes those type of pop ups are trying to trick you into buying their software. As other poster have suggested make sure you don't have any spyware by running spybot and adaware. Also run your antivirus program. Don't have one? Run a free online scan at http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ . Also make sure to go to Microsoft updates page and get all update. Continue to go back to the page until you do not have any updates available.

To stop pop ups. Make sure you have the one built into window turned on. Tools>pop up blocker>turn on

You have spyware on your computer. You can either follow the previous poster who suggested you change your browser, which means you have to download Firefox and uninstall Internet Explorer, or you can download, install and run spyware and clean this stuff out. My suggestion is to run spyware, and do it daily. Use SpyBot and Ad-Aware. they are free from Download.com.
