Yes of course, My dads partner asked him to marry her. They are getting married in July. I think it works well as sometimes the guy is a little insecure about whether or not to ask if he does not want to put any pressure on the woman or move too fast. In this example it would be a great idea for the woman to make the move.

A woman can do whatever she wants. The biggest roadblock here would be if her family would look down on it. But if she loves him, asking him would be the next step. I did it and we've been happily married for six years now. :)

I wouldnt. However, my mom's friend asked her husband to marry her and they've been married for 20 years now.
