I do volunteer work throughout the year, so at this time of the year, it doesn't feel any different than in the middle of the year. The house is already decorated, the cookies are baked, presents are bought, cards are done, and people on the street still strike me as ungrateful, rude, me,me,me,gimme, gimme, gimme people. I know that's unfair to the general population, but I haven't seen anything else around lately.

Hmmm. Too commercial.... Too expensive... Too early..... Too hard to keep up...
Change focus... It's about Jesus.... Celebrate His birth and be kind to others. Make presents ... simple handmade gifts mean a lot.

Sorry to hear of your loss..but, I recommend spending some selfless time with someone who has nothing. I count my blessings and think if it were I, at this Blessed season that has nothing, I would want someone to make mine special. There are truly Soooo many people that really have nothing and don't abuse the system or prey upon the innocense of this time of year.
2 years ago, the week before the holiday, when my husband and I were still driving OTR(truck drivers), we came across a hitchhiker in Gallup NM. ..it was dark, snowing and blowing(around 20 degrees without the chill factor) I normally am skeptical until I seen tucked into his duffle bag was his dog "Hershey". I started to cry. I asked him where he was going, Gulfport Mississippi and I immediately looked at my hubby and he said "Come on ". We were going to NJ. We took them as far as Memphis TN. Hershey was so cool! Phil did open up and tell us his heartfelt story. His Dad lived in Gulfport and he had no other place to go. I am teary eyed now thinking of him and knowing what he had endured before and now with Hurricane Katrina, my heart aches not knowing if they are ok. We could have been fired but I knew we had to do it! I would do it again in a New York minute! It made my christmas more real and fufilled! We did not get his address and that is the only thing I regret!....PS. When we got empty in Jersey City we were dispatched to New Orleans and could have given him door to door delivery and a warm place for a couple more days...Santa and Mrs. Santa drove a big red Freightliner Classic that year!. We did send along them a care package, one for Phil,($) & including a warm stocking hat of my husband's and beef jerky and apples and also Hershey with all the doggie stuff a traveling dog needs!
Think of something you can give without receiving in return and it will be the BEST Christmas EVER....I promise! Merry Merry to you and yours!

It's got to be such a commercial affair when especially some children get everything they want all year long that there is nothing left to buy for them. I used to be a decorating fanatic but not anymore. Christmas puts you in debt and that is not what Christmas should be about anyway. Now I just want it to hurry up and go away since the true meaning of Christmas is the birth of Jesus and that meaning has been lost along the way, when Christ got replaced with Xmas.

It's taking a vacation somewhere in the batch of cookies you need to make for a really great friend. Or it could be hiding in the bag of groceries you want to help an old lady put in her trunk. OR - it could be in the salvation army pot, and tossing a few quarters in there will make it come out.

When I lose my Christmas spirit, it tends to reappear when I start doing little things for people to help them out. I hope you find yours soon.

As a last resort, try breaking out a box of decorations and putting some nice Christmas music on, and drinking some eggnog. Oh, and put up the decorations with someone you love - other people who have their Christmas spirit still can sometimes influence yours to come back.

Umm, gee, I wonder why anyone could loose their Christmas spirit! Just because this year some people thought it would be cool to mix Halloween and Christmas decorations on the outside of their houses. Or, you see Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas displayed in the stores! Or maybe its all the greedy little children who come to you after every toy/gadget commercial on TV chanting, I want that, I want that.

Its society's rush through the holidays that make the rest of us loose our Christmas Spirit.
This is my opinion.

Do something good for someone..... Participate in sending food and things to our solders, or go to a local nursing home to spread some cheer. If anything most of those people who don't have family are the one's without the christmas spirit.

If you think that people are not in the Christmas spirit, then see if you can spark it in them, wish them a Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays. Once you start saying it you will start feeling it and the Christmas spirit is contagious. Good Luck and Merry Christmas!

well i haven't seen it, but i think i know how you could get it back...
go to your nearest city (ie london, manchester, liverpool, new york...wherever) at night, when it's dark, with your friends. stroll through the streets seeing all the beautiful lights and looking at the Christmassy displays in shop windows, and start decorating your house. you're bound to be feeling more Christmassy than father Christmas himself!

can empathize as my Christmas Spirit left and must be hunting yours. sometimes we all get personal news which takes us down but then perhaps good news will come to cheer us up. hope this happens for you, too.
