Wolves hunt in packs and give little yelping calls to drive their prey into a good spot for the kill. Men , by their nature, hunt women and the whistle is to alert the other wolf men that prey is approaching.
I never do, it pisses most women off.

From a 1940s slang term wolf, for what you may call a "babe-hound " today. The association of Wolf , a predatory animal that `hunts` in packs , and the Wolf`s rising and falling call, has stuck in our culture. Riding Hood almost got seduced by one, Duran Duran , were as `hungry` as one, various other bird-dogs, hound-dog etc, continue the theme.

Aesops Fables about Wolves. It wasn't until the 20th century that "wolf" can to mean a philanderer, but the root wise is the same. That expression led to "wolf call", "wolf whistle." and so on. Another popular tale courtesy of Aesop is The Boy Who Cried Wolf, from which we have borrowed the phrase "cry wolf"

in long ago times there were wolves that had hard of hearing illness.. so it was up to the bearded woods guy to learn how to whistle because the wolf gods told him it was the ONLY way to comunicate with them...he sat in the woods hour on end trying to whistle.....one night he was exhausted from practise. the wind was gently blowing...under this tree where he was sitting had holes throughout the limbs...and the breeze blowing through these holes created sound...so he cheated, and used a whistle to make the wolf whistle.... /OR its just some term associated with those "I have nuthing better to do AT work but whistle at girls". guys.....dunno... hope this helps...hehehehee
