Do make sure all phone sockets INCLUDING the one with the modem have ADSL line filters installed - you have to separate the ADSL signal from the voice one.

Then check the modem instructions - the indicator lights or a status program on your PC will be able to tell you if an ADSL signal is being detected on the line.

If it is, the the final step is to make sure that you have given the right login credentials to the ADSL service - if you have not your connection will not go beyond the first server.

It is unlikely you have an IP clash unless you have configured your network to use static IP addresses (which does not sound likely).

There could be a number of different things causing your DSL not to work. Ill order them from most to least likely.

One, there has to be dsl-filters on every phone in your house except for the line going to your dsl modem(because, if you put a dsl-filter on your dsl modem it will block it). Otherwise regular voice or dial-up Internet calls will interfere with it.

Two, the address settings (or firewall) is blocking you from the Internet, try using a different computer to rule out yours.

Three, you are trying to use a crossover Ethernet cable to connect your computer to your dsl modem, make sure you are using a straight through cable.

Four, your house has to be within 5k of the telephone switching office and the line has to be high enough quality to support dsl, but your provider is supposed to check these things.

I hope this helps you get your dsl working,

1) Phone BT's broadband helpline as they can confirm if your line is activated. If it isn't, let them sort it out as you have paid good money for the service. The phone number is in the information they sent you with your username and password or broadband hardware.

2) No, dialup access will not affect broadband provision.

Assuming this is DSL, has your isp checked the CO and/or the line to see why its not making it out there. There are numerous reasons why it may not be making it out there. All phone devices would need a filter on them as well. If you dont have enough filters, unplug any extra items. Otherwise call you ISP.

You question is a litle vague but I believe you may have an IP conflict.
Try the following. Go to "Start" then "Run". Type in "cmd". When the command line window opens type in "ipconfig /release". When the prompt comes back type in "ipconfig /renew". When it returns type in "ipconfig /flusddns".
Oh yeah please leave the " " out. Use just the commands.
