We have come a long way with race relations in the last 50 years. Too bad Richards has to drag us back to those sad times.

Racism is alive and well on both sides, as you saw by the tape. But we can also conclude that Michael Richards needs to be put in a padded room!

Racism will always be with us. He isn't the only one we have today. Jesse Jackson, Louis Farrakan (?) are racists. They have made a fortune off of racism. The only difference between them and Richards, is the color of their skin. I think we all need to grow up. They are only words. The best thing is to ignore it. The more we get to know one another as individuals, the less we will consider race.

What the heck. Somebody made him angry, he said mean things. If the people were noticably fat, he would have said things about their weight. He wanted to cut those people with his words so he said things that would cut. Whether Richards does things that really are racist, I don't know, but simply saying some racially insensitive things in a moment of great anger and frustration does not make you a racist or a bigot, it mearly makes you childish.

Yes, I think so. Why else would someone call a black person a n*****, when they can just call them something else that applies to everyone?
Racism is never going to be gone. It's always going to be here. There are too many people that have hate in their hearts, that teach these things to their children, who in turn, will teach their children and so on. Unless all stupid people die, then there will always be racism.

A clever ploy to get some publicity and media coverage, to jumpstart the career again... plain and simple.
IT WORKED !! Look at all the celebrities that have risen to the occasion to either side with him, comfort him or speak out against him.

he was heckled, and thus felt humiliated. he had a need to strike out verbally to defend himself. he said what he thought would do the most damage, like we all do.
That's human.
But as a stand-up, he should have some tried and true retorts for that.

I think he has always been a "little out of touch" and his fame has definitely gone to his HEAD.

Neither. He's a washed-up actor who just ruined any chance of a career he had left. Sad, really.
