Don't get me wrong I think it is the most awesome intro i've ever heard and I love it but why do they use it? Who thought about using it etc?

Because they're old and can't stay up that late anymore...you should see a Blue Oyster Cult concert...over as soon as it started and just as the sun fully set, haha!!

In the "Some Kind of Monster" documentary, you see Hetfield warming up by singing along with the string section. Maybe that is why he chose the intro. Besides, "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" is a bad-*** movie!

´Cause Lars & James are big fans of ´´Ennio Morricone´´, who´s composed this piece.
And the 2nd reason is that this song was used for the movie
´´The good, the bad & the ugly´´, & as you might have known, James loves this movie...
So that´s why they play this in every gig, I suppose.
