There's no way to tell. Back in 1970s, they were very popular, but they've since been eclipsed first by Latin American soap operas, then by domestic TV fare. The part of the story that very few people take into account is that in 1970s, Soviet government sold weapons to India and accepted payments in indian rupees; the rupees then were used to procure whatever could be sold in the good old USSR, from textiles to movies. That trade by and large stopped in mid-1980s; since then, very few, if any, Indian films made it over to Russia. Additionally, the number of moviegoers has collapsed in 1990s and is only now beginning to grow again as multiplexes begin to appear in Russian cities...
Chances are, the popularity of Indian movies could be restored, if they are marketed professionally...

I'm a malaysian in russia. You'd be surprised, they DO sell bollywood movies here, and I have met with some russians who sing their heart out to bollywood tunes. But only a small group of russians do like it.

They still have their fan base in Russia, but their popularity is nowhere near its peak in the 70s, when tens of Indian movies were in movie theaters (probably more than US and Western movies combined) and "Disco dnacer" was arguably the most popular foreign movie in 1982 and Rishi Kapoor was one of the most popular actors.
