The Russians used to analyse wine (yes wine) from all over the USSR (as was) to look at the Gold content. That told them what Gold was in the soil where the vines grew.
Other plants(EG Equisetum arvense) positively like Gold so they grow in areas where there is Gold and these have been used by prospectors.
Geological formations known as Greenstone belts are known to contain Gold. So these are sought.
Finding localised deposits relies on knowledge of how Gold moves and concentrates in streams and rivers, or how it is deposited in hard rock (eg quartz veins).

That's really easy. If you're in the US take a trip to Fort Knox. If you're in the UK take a trip to The Bank of England etc etc
There is more gold to be found in these places than any other place on earth.
Isn't it strange that people dig gold out of holes and immediately bury it in another hole and then pronounce themselves rich?

It's very hard/difficult. That is why there were gold rush.
It's kind of a hit or miss like oil drilling.
