Ultimate racism-look at the Nazi's. I think they affected the world pretty bad, don't you?
Someday we'll grow out of both racism, and the need to have ultra political correctness (which is an attempt to stamp out racism). We'll just consider the race of individuals irrelevent or even just interesting. Now that would be worth aiming at.
Racism, like many prejudices is formed from narrow, dogmatic beliefs often fueled by some fear or superiority complex (which has fear at it's heart). It was a throwback to a survival instinct-possibly and this possibility is now used as an excuse by both white and black supremacists. Its pure crap now as an arguement and one day folks will realise we have one planet to live on and no other for the foreseeable future. This means we either continue to war for resources, destroying the very thing we war over, or learn to completely cooperate and destroy these stupid bigotries and idiot ignorant viewpoints.

I am accused of being a racist. I use to work on the service desk at a retail store, it was a busy day for returns so I had a long line of people wanting to return items, I don't know how long this black guy was waiting but he eventually like everyone else got his chance. Unfortunate for him his item I could not return because it was an open DVD, I told him this and told him he could exchange the movie for only the exact same DVD if it was defective. Without warning he starting screaming white devil and whitey holding the black man down. He began to tell everyone in line behind him that I was racist and continued to yell that I told him "black" people were not allowed to bring items back. I eventually called a manager and when she came to the desk he proceeded to call her a racist...in the end he was removed from the store by our local police department and given a restraining order. All that for a freaking DVD.

Racism only affects those who are open to the concept.
Example - I live next door to an Aboriginal family - adults are fine, so are the kids, mutual respect. Before they moved in I lived next door to a white family with abuse issues, noise, and no respect to your neighbour.
You ask the question, "how does it affect us?" On a day to day basis it does,on a person to person basis you call it as you see it, and it's no bigger deal than that!!
