The trapezius is an extremely large muscle. It sounds like you need to go back to the doctor. Being on an anti-inflammatory for a few days isn't good enough. Obviously, the ultra sound treatments did not get the job done. The trapezius is a muscle, it shouldn't be cracking. Perhaps you have some ligament damage, and irritated nerves. You need further evaluation.

See your doctor, ask him about longer term treatments that include anti-inflammatory medications, muscle relaxers, and physical therapy. Hot and cold packs may help also.

Your doctor may refer you to a Sports Medicine doctor. Any doctor worth his salt will make surgery a last resort.

Good luck.

See an orthopedic for the best help and advice. To be safe--and I'm NOT suggesting that you need to think about this happening to you--make sure they do surgery. If you ever need something done, you'll already be aquainted with a surgeon. Orthopedics are like almost all other types of medical doctors, the one exception perhaps being chiropractors, they all have their specialties. I had been to orthopedics for years before I found that out about their profession. I always thought THEY all did the same thing...DUH!

You could consult with a Physical Therapist. They would be able to examine you and determine the cause of the problem. You can ask your doctor for a referral or go to one on your own if your state has direct access.

Sounds to me like the muscle is tightened and won't release...Call your doc for some muscle relaxers and try ice instead of heat....Increase your calcium intake it aides in contraction and release of muscles.....best of health
