It must be the Beatles! They changed the lives of a whole generation with their music and their appearance.

That accolade for me would have to be presented to Status Quo. I first saw them in 1973 at the Kursal in Southend and I was 10 years old. I thought they were the best thing since sliced bread. since then (and I know its only coincidence) but my life seems to have paralleled theirs. My ups have matched theirs and my lowest ebb in the early 80s was when status quo had finally fully desceneded into the world of Cocaine and booze and then came the split in 84 at the same time as I'd tried to commit suicide.
Now in 2006, they're sounding better than theyve ever done and my life is the best its ever been. Status quo have given me so much entertainment these past 30+ years I gave a little bit back by naming my son Francis Dominic Nicholas Michael after the great man himself. And had I had another son he would have been Richard Allen after Ricky Parfitt!
Status Quo are my all time favouite band and I've got everything theyve ever recorded and by Christmas this year I will have seen them 107 times! The music isn't particularly inspirational, but its got a lot more than the three chords everybody thinks it has!

Although I have a bunch of favorites from Dylan to Metallica, U2 has had the greatest impact in my life when I listened to their All That You Can't Leave Behind with songs like Stuck in a moment can't get out, Walk on, Kite, even when the whole album is a great favorite.
P.S. When I started listening to them I was a Believer, them being a Christian band; now that I am a Bright, I still love listening to them because they are catering to a wide audience not being bound, but their How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb was a let down.

A singer from the 1950 60 era named Johnny Ray who had a song that I then thought to be for little kids. It's name is The Little White Cloud that Cried." The line goes He{the cloud} told me to have faith in all kinds of weather for the sun will surely shine. Do your best and always remember dark clouds pass with time." I didn't understand that line un til I became an adult and it has sustained me

Don McLean
He sang "VINCENT" in the 70's, about the painter Vincent Van Gogh.
It was such an iconic song, so different from ll the rock stuff around at the time.
"Starry, starry nights"
I was 19. I had a dress I'd made myself; it was midnight blue, with tiny twinkly stars all over.
My friends called it my Starry Nights dress.
That song epitomised everything about the early 70's; the peace movement, the feel of the times, the re-emergence of the Troubadour.
It still has the power to stop me in my tracks.

Transvision Vamp. Since I started listening to them (or pretty much anybody from London) I would just dream of living there one day. And I did, and I stayed in the UK for 10 years, so that's definitely been a change of life

GLAY, a Japanese Band that makes me hate Asian pop music. Then I turn in to a multi-genre-listening Music Lover! I listen to Classical, Blues, Electronica and a little bit of Alternative Rock.

Boy this is quite philosophical. LL Cool J. Some of his music really gets to me and is really real. Made me love life more and feel more passionate in things. While other music of his has made me pumped, excited or satisfied.

Bob Seger Band
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Pretenders
Queen
Kraftwork
Blondie
The Police
Pilot
Neil Diamond
They helped me believe there was more to life than the misery that was home. :-)

The shins...
Uhhhhh
The arcade fire
because they're so powerful they make me rethink any decision I've just made.. take a step back, you know? It makes me reflect and understand everything. I suppose it's not that they've changed my life but that they still consistently change my life every day that I listen to them.
Many other bands do aswell.
