Ok, I am gathering by your question you are meaning how many people have died in Holy Wars? I hope I am correct. There have been cursades to "save the holy land" and ofcourse the Jehad of the Muslims to get the holy land back from them. These are the ones that come readily to mind. I would say around 1 million to 2 million from thoes wars alone.
I would add 500,000 for the whole inquation part of history.
Thoes are wars that are for Christian beliefs. I have no idea if any easter caluture has had such wars. Most buddist and hindu are very peaceful religions.
Jewish wars I would estimate 2 milion or so in the last 2000 years because they have been victums and warriors as well.
I don't subscribe that all wars are religious. The Civil War was about human rights and land not who loved their god more. Heck, I know for a fact Iraq and Afganastian (the war on terror) isn't about religion. It is about revenge and oil. I know this only because I have fought in Iraq the frist year of the war. (What most people don't realize that most of northern Iraq is made up of christians and jews living along side muslims.) WWII was about Axis powers trying to make a land grab and kill off thoes they blamed for all their troubles. Japan isn't a christian nation so it could not have been about one religion over another. The war on communism is was a disagreement on how a country should be ran not what people worship.
I hope this answers your question.

I guess that every war would have at least one person who would have some kind of religious beliefs. Even though a very small proportion of all wars are of pure religious motivation (almost every war is for land, money, power, slaves etc) many justify themselves to the public by claiming a religious backing. It could be claimed that even internal civil wars like the War of the Roses had a religious element in that almost every person who fought in that war would have had a religion at some kind.
Even ancient battles like the Trojan war, the Roman conquest of Britain and the Battle of Hastings would have had some backing by some local priests, or even higher ranking church officials.
So in theory every person who ever was killed in a war, directly or indirectly had some form of personal religious belief and therefore all war deaths are deaths in religious wars. Even a duel between two atheists is a kind of a religious war.
So probably 700,000,000 people as a guess.

I think its hard to put a number on it as some wars are obvious if its religion related and other wars ie Americans against red Indians.... would that be government against people in the way of progress or Christians belief against what they called less civilised?

far far too many which just goes to show how not quite ready for civilization as much as we think we are, the major problem is you will always find someone who will believe the nonsense that you place in their heads and then send them out to convert more. If these gods and goddeses actually exist why have they never shown themselves to a mass audience? and claiming that they ask for faith instead of this is nothing more than psychology being used as a tool to control, for example look at how most big religions claim their gods to be all forgiving but then point out that their gods will destroy you for crimes against them ( double standards anyone?) if all of these gods actually did exist and were as powerful as their human sales reps claim them to be then surely they would be happy not being believed in by everyone because they are far too wise for it to affect them. Humans cannot accept that they are responsible for their lives and feel the need to use their gods as a justification for the vile crimes they commit.

Far more than have been born for religion! The battle cry used to be "For God, King and Country", so it makes you realise that there must be a religious element to all wars.

Religion is just one of many tools used by the rich and evil to depopulate. There are many other reasons for war, but I would say mostly is done for this. Population control.
