age of angies x
age of carol y

x+y = 66

y = 3x + 2

solving these two
age of angies = 16
age of carol = 50

Angie is 16, Carol is 18: You take 4 times the age you think Angie might be: say 15. That comes to 60 plus 2 = 62, nearly correct. 4 X14 = 56 plus 2 = 58 - you are getting further away. However 4 X16 = 64 plus 2 = 66 - correct.

let say angies=x and carols=y so x+y=66

y=3x+2 (carols age is 2 more that 3times angies age)

x+3x+2=66 (we can write 3x+2 instead of y)

so 4x=66-2
4x=64
x=16 angies are 16
to find carols; carols were 3x+2 so they are = 3 .16 +2=50

x+y =66 sum of the ages

x=3y +2
caroles age is 2 more than 3times angles age

so 4y+2 = 66 y=16

x=50

carole age 50

angies age 16

let carol's age be x and angies be y
according to the question, x=2+3y......(1)
and x+y=66....(2)

now,putting value of x from (1) in (2)

2+3y+y=66
4y=66-2
4y=64
y=16

therefore angie's age is 16yrs and carol's age is -x=66-16
i.e,x=50

answer: carol's age-50yrs and angie's age-16yrs
