Okay, my answer to this brain buster is this.. To have channel called BET and the main purpose of this channel is so that African Americans can have a channel devoted to them, is racist. Now before you stop reading because I said what you don't like, think of this.. If there was a WET channel, how would you feel?? I mean, if you weren't on this subject, and passed by the channel, how would you feel? A lot of people would feel that the makers of such a channel were racist. CMT. that was brought up a couple of times, I don't know if you know it, but NOT ALL WHITE PEOPLE LIKE COUNTRY. In fact, a lot don't, such as myself. And "white people have all the other stations" HA, I will leave that one at that. Ignorance, no, the feeling is justified==> When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans (most of you remember that), the CEO, Debra L. Lee, made the statement: "Once I heard that there were so many African American homes destroyed, I wanted to help" ....

Ask yourself this, if there only a few African American families there, OR just white families there, would BET still have helped?? My answer is NO, because of her anser.. I am in no way/shape/or form racist, and it is not racist for me to believe the idea of this channel is racist. I believe the reason there is no political debate about this channel is that most white people are afraid to do or say something about this channel because African Americans would become angry, not all, but most, and accuse that person of being racist...... Yes there are white people on commercials on BET, what does that prove??? And they occasionally appear in movies on BET, okay... what is that saying?? Point being, You can be racist and not Racial slurs.. All it takes is something claimed as to be just for a particular race... {Old days = "white's only bathroom" "white's only school" very racist} {New days ="All Black Colleges" "Black Entertanment Television" not racist???}

So we shouldn't have channels addressing he needs of specific groups?

It;s not about colour, it's about specific groups whether they are based on ethnicity, music preference, of special interests. Face it, most of the channels address the interests of white folk, maybe not explicitly of specifically, but they tend to focus on white society. African Americans have to make do with only 1 channel that addresses the entire population.

Y are u overanalyzing things. BET is a channel that plays music that most black people listen to, which is r & b and hip hop. White people can watch the channel anytime they want to if they listen to that music. They also play shows that are of a primarily black cast that we enjoy. It's not a anti-white channel so no they are not racist. They have country music television and MTV, which are of primaily white people and we don't feel that it is racist. They also play the videos of white people who fit in that genre of music such as Mariah Carey and Paul Wall

That is true there is a double standard against whites but it's only because of the history of white people and how blacks used to be treated by them
I am not offended by BET i have never even thought about it but that's so true if there was a WET if would cause alot of problems white people can not even be proud of their own race i have seen bumper stickes saying "brown pride" omg can u imagine if someone had a sticker on their car that said "white pride" ha i am not racist either

guess isn't racist and white all and sundry is on guess for all time, it quite is not like it quite is promoting black supremacy or hatred. And understand one cares if moist exsisted I recommend as long because it quite is not promting hate. And basically so which you recognize guess is owned and operated by Viacom the comparable business organisation that ownes MTV, VH1, Nick, CBS and another channels. So if white human beings think of they could have their very own community take it up with Viacom.

I agree that it is racist and I don't think that it is not over analizing at all. and chiklada, what in the world are you talking about?? There is no negative message here. This is how this person feels, at no point does he say "this is how it is". You may be white, but that does not mean that he is racist for putting facts and opinions out there

everyone is racist to some degree, it's something i try very hard to overcome. but i agree it's OK for everyone except whites to have something of their own. when they try its called racism, it's a double standard. you know how fast the Caucasian college fund would get sued........and before you start screaming I'm racist I'm Cherokee not white.
