i've read it before and i don't recall it being emo. then i get online and read/hear that it's "emo".. how is it considered "emo"?

Yeah - I can understand why it's considered "emo", as it deals with teenage sexuality and angst.

Actually I get a bit bored with people who try to categorise stuff, like the websites you've seen online. By doing this, it tends to alienate people from accessing it. People can miss out on a whole range of literature or music because it gets given a label, which then puts some people off reading it or listening to it.

"Catcher" is a great book irrespective of what category or type it is.

I didn't know books got categorized like that... I don't see how it would be emo either. Maybe a little rock, but emo.

I could see how it gets the name--I found it kind of meandering and, well, plotless. Also a tiny bit depressing, if I remember correctly.

And, as you probably know, anything slightly pointless and depressing gets called emo!

What isn't emo these days? What a tired and meaningless cliche. Time to retire that one.
