It's dysfunctional depressing behavior that makes me wish I didn't have to live in the same house!

Don't neglect her emotionally and she probably won't buy stuff to fill the emptiness she obviously has. It sounded like you are already 'out of the house', are you still willing to love, honor and cherish your wife? Yes? then get into counseling and lay all the cards on the table! make her put hers on the table as well. At least try and be friends about the problem instead of judging and ending it on a bad note.

Could your wife be a victim of her own, near-impossible-to-override instincts? Humans evolved through millennia of profound scarcity - the ones who thrived would be the ones who felt an urge to collect more food/wood/other resources than they immediately needed. Take obesity. Until recent centuries, it would be near-impossible for people to become obese, unless they had a genetic disorder, as they lacked the food and leisure time. Fast-forward to 2006, and people do have the food/leisure time, and they're stuck with this out-of-date instinct to keep eating more than they immediately require.

You may not be able to. Maybe you could get a trash bag every trash day and fill it with things she wouldn't notice or care about. I know what you mean. I make a point of filling a bag or two descreetly every week because the clutter in the closets and cabinets make me so unhappy.

When you find out let me know. We have 3 vehicles, a car, a van and a truck that needs a battery. Did I mention only he has his drivers? Before I met him I had nothing and now..... I just ask him if this is something we really need or is it something he just wants? or how will we afford it and why do we need this object? Sometimes it works but sometimes he goes behind my back and buys it anyways.... Good luck with the advice.

Talk to her and if you think she has gotten completely out of control then get some counseling....There are many people that have a significant issue with shopping and buying that can be helped with behavior modification and counseling....good luck
