Arroyo is not loved by the ppl of the philipines, she is a corrupt self centered greedy woman.to the answerer above, maybe preaching about environment is your answer but FYI the developing countries like China India and Philippines send more CO2 and pollutants in the atmosphere than UK and USA, so do your research!, but the truth is it is political greed. the mayors and senators turn a blind eye for a kickback from the lloggers.
arroyo has already rigged one election against Fernando Po Jr, she will rig even more.

For as long as there is someone powerful protecting illegal loggers then it won't stop. Some local government units may also be bribed so that these loggers can do their thing. The government units themselves may be the perpretrators of these illegal activities. I'm guessing... but who knows right? Anything and everything will be done for as long as money is involved. Even the Timber License Agreement isn't followed anymore. It's this law saying that for every hectare of trees you cut, you have to plant in a certain area as well. This is to ensure that mountains and hills won't be left denuded. But unfortunately creating a law is nothing without implementing and monitoring it.

As for voting Gloria out it's not that easy to remove the president from power. There are processes to be followed, steps to be taken. I mean i'm not pro Gloria or anything but we can't forever use people power to impeach someone. That'll just create chaos. That's why there's a system. And besides we're never contented with whoever's in position anyway. Not everyone will have one voice in anything. For instance, do you really think that the masses have the same views as super well-off businessmen? I don't think so. The issues they face are not always the same. And it's not that simple. You just don't vote out someone if you don't like the person. And who is there to replace her? By using people power all the time to get what we want our country's just going to become one with an unstable government, a banana republic.

Did you know that the problem of illegal logging has been going on since the time of President Marcos? If I was not mistaken there was a moratorium on logging in the Philippines during the time of President Aquino but was later lifted by Congress due to pressures from influential politicians both from the administration and opposition. It is big business and most of these logging companies and lands are owned by political families (Congressmen, Senators and a former politicians from both sides of the arena). Removing President Arroyo will do no good if the same politicians in Congress are in power. Remember that Congress is co-equal with the Presidency.

Therefore my advise to you is to VOTE the person you think is against logging. Do not vote like you are gambling for the lottery or because he is the only person you know. KNOW the persons political platform and history. When that politician is voted in power, FOLLOW UP on his promise to stop illegal logging. Most of all, ACT on your advocacy. Some people are very good in complaining and talking but its all hot air. And before you even start complaining, PAY YOUR TAXES. You do not have the right to complain against your government if you do not share the burden of paying taxes whether you think the government is corrupt or not.

Greed and poverty is the reasons for illegal logging. Greed of the ones that have money, the corporations and business, poverty of the ordinary people that need work even if it is destroing their paradise or even as fuel for their cooking and washing. The rain forests are being destroyed in the South Americas by big corporates that bribe corrupt governments and the same for forests all over the world. We bang on about global warming and carbon dioxide levels yet as well as stabilising the soil and soaking up huge levels of rainfall the forests need CO2 and love it yet the focus for the world has turned away from the real problems and culprits, the big business and corrupt of the world. The mass murderers of this world, currently Bush and Blair have caused millions of tonnes of polution in Iraq that will spread round the world killing the forests, just like the polution from the UK killed large parts of the Black Forest in Germany. There are sinister and ruthless people in control of us all and mostly we only see the front stooges. "For evil to flourish it takes good men to do nothing".

The Philippine president is much loved by the people and we have to understand that she cannot do everything at once and has powerful enemies, a lot that would have her killed no doubt.

Lets get our own house in order first and this question will resolve itself as a result. Lets see where we that feed the greed machine can clean up the global filth (I mean human filth) that polutes the world and uses our earnings to murder and maim men, women and children and we will solve the problem for them.

They make money from illegal logging. Actually they said they were doing their best to stop it. That was what the DENR secretary said. But that was just to get the attention of people and tricking them. Arriyo doesnt care on those things. She majored in economy so she is just putting her attention particularly into economy.

the same time america stops destroying the rain forest for cattle grazing ground, the same time china stops destroying local countryside for industrial progress and the very same instant America and China admit there is an environmental crisis. Which they won't until we're all screwed.
