You can either import other MP3's or CD's into the libraries...But yes you do need to USE iTunes to use an iPod...Apple "gives" out iTunes for free.

You can use your own tunes, as long as they are Mp3 format. You only need the iTunes software to load the music to the iPod.

You can put your own .mp3 files onto an ipod using the itunes software. You can use the itunes software to copy music from a CD onto you computer and then you can transfer that to you ipod also.

Just normal mp3´s ,
but itunes can convert audio files that are smaller and better quality than mp3.
