my guinea pig won't drink water unless i take the recipient (ball type) to his mouth. what can i do to convince him to drink on his own?

I'm assuming that you're talking about the kind of water bottle with a metal spout with a tiny ball inside? If so, maybe you don't have it hanging at the correct height in his cage. It could be too high for your piggie or too low - next time you water him by hand pay attention to how high off the ground you're holding the bottle. Hang it at the same height. Then, stop watering him by hand. He's going to eventually get thirsty enough to figure it out on his own. Please DON'T feed him iceburg lettuce, yes, it's very watery, but it's so watery it can upset his stomach. While some people will tell you that feeding enough fruits and veggies will take down on the amount of water your pig drinks, mine still go through quite a lot of water despite being fed fruits & veggies daily. Stick to things like kale and red peppers that have a high content of Vitamin C.

Sometimes they drink water and other times they do not. It may drink when you are not there. What about using drip type bottles?

they dont drink alot as long as you give it greens and lettuce it will be fine

it will drink when thirsty
