The players from both teams normally sign the ball and it is then either auctioned for charity or given to a local school.

A lot of clubs hand them down to local youth teams to save them the expense of having to buy new balls themselves as this can have a real drain on their funds

If someone scores a hat trick then he gets to take it home. Otherwise it is up to the home side to decide what to do with it. Maybe use it for training, or auction it off for charity.
