No, not really. So many factors come into play when you are pregnant; genes from both parents and grandparents; mother's nutrition; smoking, drinking, mother's general well-being.
If subsequent babies birth weights continue to increase, the obs. may decide to test the mother for diabetes.
However, if your babies' birth weights start to decrease; i.e, that they get lighter, there may exixt a condition called placental insufficiency- where the mother's uterus seems to increase in size, she puts on weight, but the baby doesn't, because not enough nutrients are getting through the placenta.
I only discovered this condition existed on my fifth child.
My first baby was seven and a half pounds;
My second was six pounds 12 ounces.
My third was six and a half pounds.
My fourth was seven pounds
And my fifth was only five pounds ten ounces.
All were full term; all normal deliveries; I am 5'5" tall, and an average size 14.

Most of my friends who have had babies there birth weights have gone up each time unless they had a boy then a girl. Girls tend to be smaller to start(from what I know about). My first daughter weighed 6lb 6oz, when I was on the ward in hospital all the other babies born were boys and they were all 9lb +, I'm now 37weeks pregnant with my 2nd daughter and although everyone keeps saying my baby is the right size for my dates, they always ask how much my first daughter weighed. Also when I was pregnant with my first daughter at one of the scans/appointments they told me my baby was about 7lb2oz(they used to measure your tummy), she was never that. I've noticed that they don't do that anymore. I don't believe there will ever be any logic to you question as everyones body is so different.

I think that is an old wives tale although it does seem to be the case quite often!
Not for me though - Baby No.1 (boy) was 8lb 14oz and Baby No.2 (Girl) was 7lb 8oz.

it can...mine went from 8lbs 5 oz, 8lbs 11oz, 7 lbs 9 oz, 9lbs 9oz. i've had girlfriends though who've had babies all under 8lbs...who knows...it's different with everyone. a larger baby the 2nd time around isn't necessarily harder to deliver...my last one, 9.9 was the easiest to deliver. and i only gained 10lbs during my entire pregnancy with her.

However, I am hoping they are wrong! My son was 11 lbs 2 oz and he was my first! ACK!

I don't know if it is anything proven, but it does seem to. My youngest son was heavier by a few pounds. My younger sister weighed more that me. And her younger daughter weighed more.
