what can i do to stop a loud tapping noise in diesel vauxhall astra?

Here in DK its a Opel Astra what ever. Ive had 2 Astra's so i know a Little bit about them. First Opel diesel are not the very best but if you can do a Little bit yourself its OK. your tapping noise I'm sure are your camshaft that is worn out. Opel makes camshafts that are worn out after about 100000 or 150000 km they are to soft but you can get a harder one in a Opel club in your country most of the clubs have them custom made If you have a automatic cold stater have the wiring checked

Its a diesel, if it doesn't sound like a bag of nails it's not running. Thats what you get for buying a diesel, a noisy, smelly, loud, ugly, smoky un-cooth slow piece of sub-standard junk. Unless you want to climb very big hills, they're good for that.

First check if its coming from the cam cover if so its the tappets that are adjusted by shims if its an older astra there is a special tool that enables you to change them witout removing cam shaft >Regards MICK UK worked on them.

I can't be the tappets as they are hydraulic. It could be a broken piston or injector which would need replacing. All depends where it's coming from in the engine.

put some sawdust in the oil, deadens the knock, put a warning sign on the back of your car, beware oily woodchips

Try putting some oil in the engine(but i think its to late)

if its from the top of the engine the tappets might need adjusting,if its from the bottom it might be big ends,does it smoke alot
