It's possible I suppose. Nobody can say a definite: "No, there must be other life..."
Why must there be?
People always say that because there are trillions of other planets then there must be life out there but it could be the other way around - It would be just as remarkable to have all of those planets and only the one that has life.
Just because there is a large quantity of something and one of those things acts differently, it doesn't prove that any of the others will do the same.
According to scientist it is all down to conditions of the planets in relation to their relative suns. While it is true that life can exist in all sorts of extreme conditions, those conditions still have to be certain. You only have to look at our own solar system to see that Mars and Venus (our closest planets) are totally uninhabitable yet Earth is abundant with life.
Why? Because of all the perfect factors that has placed our planet where it is in relation to our Sun.
If we do get a visitor from another planet then of course other life will be proven but until that time, or until we ourselves find life out there, then it is perfectly feasible to say that Earth could be a one-off.

Considering how easily organics seem to form in space (asteroids are always filled with them), the odds are quite good for life on any good-sized rocky planet within the habitable zone of a star, where the planet has not been tidally locked by the star. On such a planet, the odds are probably better than 50/50.
Note that what you've asked is "life", and not "intelligent life." The odds are much longer on the latter.

No. We will find other suitable planets for life if we have not already secretly found some. Getting there will be the difficult part. Plus there might be trillion other universes. ;~)

its hard to calculate. but actually someone did
search for --> DRAKE EQUATION
my personal opinion
if elsewhere includes the whole universe i would say 50/50 for intelligent life within the whole universe
and 50/50 for simple organisms within our own heliosphere

if it is one in a zillion zillion means there's more than one of em
you have to put time into the equation
and when you do even One in a gazillion would make this event common
