for severe proven crimes, like rape, unjustified killing, mutilation, definitely for and also think should be carried out within 6 months or less, too many bleeding hearts out there. 15 to 20 years of us paying the tab is ridiculous. also those with life sentence with no parole, execute also, If no chance of rehab why keep them around.

I am for the death penalty however I believe that our justice system is so horribly flawed that it is rarely used fairly. Prosecutors making deals with criminals to be an eyewitness against some one else accused of committing a crime. Get real, that in itself is insane. I think the prosecuting attys should be held more accountable of their actions like withholding evidence that may harm their case. The truth, the whole truth should be submitted in court. If a DA lies to win a case he should be prosecuted. Facts should not have to be twisted to prove guilt. I would support roadside executions if the situations were obvious. Of the people who were found guilty and later proven to be innocent I think the DA should go to jail as well as the witnesses who either lied or were just plain stupid. Just because we have the best legal system in the world doesnt mean its actually a good one.

I'm against the death penalty for several reasons.
1) If an innocent person is executed, there is no way to reverse it.
2)The ten commandments says Thou Shalt Not Kill, it does not say Thou Shalt Not Kill except
3)I think life imprisonment is a much greater punishment than the death penalty.
4)The death penalty has not been proved to be an effective deterrent to crime.

Its a rather difficult subject to side on, I personally am for the death penalty, however there is something that tells me that no one has a right to take anothers life, so as you can see even if I do have preference I still am uneasy about it.

i dont agree with death penalty. Im from Australia and we dont have it here. i know USA does and for a country that worships god so much i dont understand how the death penalty can still be carried out when taking someones life is such a huge sin and against god (regardless of what the individual has done).. i would suggest life in prison....

That's a hard question to answer. I don't believe the death penalty will prevent a violent offender from committing a crime. Their lifestyle is more scary than anything we can throw at them.
HOWEVER, to me it becomes a matter of protecting society from these ultra violent people....to make sure they don't go out and hurt anyone else.

oppose it because there is always a possibility of someone being wrongfully executed and better to save that one life than execute all the others.
Also for some (Susan smith, Charles Manson) it is probably more of a "punishment" to keep them alive anyway.
Also the decision who gets the death penalty is politically based anyway, They don't even try to give it to Rich defendants like O.J. Simpson

I don't really care if a murderer lives or dies. If a murderer kills somebody I care about I think I would want to see the murderer dead. I think most people feel that way and, to that end, the death penalty is more of an act of vengence
The other capitol offense is treason. I have no compunction about killing those that commit treason. Anybody who hates their homeland so much that they are willing to betray it, deserves to die. Even more so if their actions leads to the deaths of their fellow countrymen.

We need the death penalty as much as we need jails.... Except it is a proven acceptable LEGAL method of population control

The death penalty doesn't work. If you were going to truly punish someone then you'd keep them alive.
