I just put lights on our Christmas tree. The tree is artificial and the lights are the bigger multi-colored ones, I think they are made of glass and they say indoor/outdoor use. I'm nervous, though, 'cause after only being on for a couple of minutes, they are almost too hot to touch! I don't want to start a fire, although this seems fairly unlikely. Do you have any knowledge on the subject?

They get about as hot as a regular light bulb does. If they are the bigger, older ones anyway.

The bigger glass bulbs to get hotter. My parents used to have them outside, and even in the freezing cold, it would burn your hand off! Just make sure the tree is never unattended, and I would let it "cool down" before you leave or go to bed, just to be on the safe side, you never know. I bet your tree looks really pretty with the bigger bulbs though. Have a Merry Christmas!

Yep. It is normal for Christmas lights to get hot. Those tiny little
ones can get hot too. But the bigger ones seem to get hot enough
to cause a nasty blister so just be very careful when using them.

,If they are too hot to touch then it may not be right to put them on a tree not necessarily because of fire, but for youngsters touching them. You should be able to get tiny LED lights for the tree and outside use, quite cheaply, and are much safer. They look quite attractive, as well.

Ordinary light bulbs work by getting hot. Hang them so that each bulb is in clear air, not touching a "needle" and you should be alright. Don't leave them on when you are not there, both to make sure and save energy.

Don't worry. After being turned on for a couple of minutes, I get too hot to touch.

No they are not supposed to get hot that fast, get rid of them and get some more. If you just bought them return them to the store where you got them and let them check them out, there is diffenitely a problem there.

Not unlikely at all. Fires this year do start by such things as lights!
Do not go to bed with them on....

Just don't leave it unattended, just like a candle.
