Biologically, Mouse (Mus sp) and Rat (Rattus sp) are two different species, belonging to class mammalia. Rat has 42 chromosomes and mouse, 40. Rat is the bigger one.
For biological experiments, both are used as lab animals, however, the purpose and objectives are different, since the generation interval is less in rat.
We usually tame a mouse (white one generally) and rat destroys our properties.
