I have been looking to find what it is called. I see kids who commit crimes go to jail, but I do not know what the jail is called, I know some people call it juvey. What are the names of prisons that kids are sentenced to called, I want to know the names of the juvey halls in America. I would also like to know how are they established and what do you have to go through to get one established.

Juvenile Detention Centers

I can tell you how the one in Colorado emerged. We were sending our juvies from Greeley, CO to Nevada. So was California. Basically, all the juvies were part of Mexican gangs. The first few years they were in Nevada, they were totally dominated by the California and Nevada gangs...then they tied rags (joined forces). A few months later, Nevada contacted Colorado, and told us that we had 1 year to build a juvie center. In essences, the Greeley gangs became much more vicious than the California or Nevada gangs...thus we built a juvie center in Colorado.

Children that are convicted are not put to jail but placed under rehabilitation and supervised by the Social Welfare Office.
