They are both English words. Both have 3 letters . Let me use them in a sentence:

This DAY onwards, I had promise myself not to eat in between meals but I ATE anyhow.

So another relationship is that they are words used to plan your diet..lol

As it was stated, they both have three letters and they are words in the English language. However, both words have "long A vowel sounds" spelled differently. Also, both words have two vowels and one consonant letter. Combined together day+ate= date.
