Your statement is way too simplistic to be discussed here. However, the socialism as a system failed because it didn't stimulate the growth of individuals. This saying illustrates the point: "you can't pay me that little as little I can work." However, the socialism has much better resource utilizations, planning, social justice etc. than the capitalism. In other words much less waste than the capitalism. That's why all modern societies today combine those two things: keep society sane (socialism) and encourage private initiative (capitalism).

Unfortunately, this is a problem everywhere. Sure, socialism is a good idea. But human nature won't allow it to thrive. Humankind is greedy by nature. We all want something for nothing. My government (US Congress) was just taken over by Democrats (Liberals). These are men and women who think socialism is the way to go, but they believe that the wealth should be distributed between middle and lower income classes and the upper income class should be left with their wealth, thus making the divide wider between themselves and the common man.
Good luck in your country. I lived there for 2 years and found it to be beautiful (both the countryside and the people.)

Capitalism destroys itself without Socialism.
Capitalism concentrates all of the wealth into the hands of the wealthy. If that happens, who will buy the stuff they produce? Without social programs, the system breaks down.
If you don't believe me, do a little research. "The Great Depression" was NOT a singular event. There was a recession or depression EVERY 10-15 years, getting worse and worse, until capitalism almost died. FDR SAVED Capitalism, by introducing socialism into our economic structure.

You are speaking about communism, not socialism. Socialism is a Utopian philosophy by a 19th century sociologist named Karl Marx. Communism was an attempt to copy the ideas of Marx, but it was run by humans and failed.

there are many socialist countries in Europe and many have a lower poverty rate than the U.S.
If the goal is a low poverty rate, which I believe it is part of the goal, then they are succeeding and not failing at all.

Not a question, but you are correct. Socialism is a malignant cancer, knowing only how to spread and destroy.
