I have a 89 nissan maxima. Okay... well my ex put water in my gas tank and i had tried starting my car several times (that was before i knew there was water in the tank) and I got it started and it sat for 45 min idlling. I Finally took it to a mechanic. He said it need a new fuel pump cuz the water messed it up..now he said that the injectors arnt working. Could this had been the cause of the water?? I have heard yes and no. I just need to figure this **** out before i put any more money in this car. thank you .

usually when water gets in a fuel system it will need to be cleaned out of all the moisture. i would get the injectors checked and cleaned first then go from there.

Have the mechanic remove the shraeder valve from the pressure test fitting on the fuel rail. Then clamp a fuel hose to the pressure testing fitting and run the other end into a gas can.
B y pressuring up the tank using a shop towel and an air hose he will be able to run a quantity of fuel/water into the can. It shouldnt be too hard to tell when the mixture is pure fuel because the water will come out first.
Use a can of "Heet" after he is done which contains alchohol and will allow the remaining water to mix into the fuel and be consumed by the engine.

Your fuel line goes near the bottom of the tank, and with the water being heavier then the gasoline there is a chance that a little water could have gotten into your injecters. Me ......... I would just let the injecters clean them selves out. If you dont want the sputtering effect then I recomend a fuel injector cleaner from any large department store should clean the injectors. A gas treatment should fix any mouister in your gas tank.

well yea, if your fuel pump is bad then you wont have injector either. no pressure. so change the fuel pump and dump some dry gas into the tank. it will help with the water issues. depending on how much water he dumped in. second thing I'd do is call the police and file a report on your ex, so that way if he gets a wild hair and trashes your car a second time you can have him arrested. hope this helps. god bless and be safe.

No need to change any thing, all you have to do is: clean the tank, pipes and filter. if the water quantity is to much then you need to clean the injectors and the plugs or you can open the plugs and start the engien, so all the water in the cylinders will goes out.
