Women's lib often accuses religious women of not being liberated and are fighting to usurp authority over a man to get there. I believe that first, you should start with God The Father.
It is He whom choose Mary "a woman" as the human vessel for Jesus coming to the world.
As for Lord Jesus, look at his example; by His treatment of Mary Magdalene (his forgiveness to her), and the example of how he treated the Canaanite woman. Though the Canaanite was considered a "dog" yet her belief in Jesus, saved her.

I think "Honor thy MOTHER and thy father..." should have been enough to show that a woman should have respect as well as a man.
