I think the most important one, and the one most of the others derive from, is that everyone deserves an equal opportunity in life. That is why you will see liberals moved to support, women, Blacks, Hispanics, the poor, the disabled, the underdog, children, schools, health care, minorities, etc. The paradigm is about fairness, equality, and compassion.

Here's a nice summary (not mine--a letter to the editor--but I agree with it):
I believe in honesty and efficiency in government, freedom of religion and speech, the Bill of Rights and the Constitution. I believe war is a necessary evil when our shores and freedom are truly threatened. I support the troops by wanting them home safe and secure and with their families.
I believe in paying my fair share of taxes so we can all benefit from a better America. I believe the laborer is worthy of his hire and should have a secure living wage. I believe in a hand-up not a hand-out. I believe in a strong, large middle class. I believe everyone should have access to affordable health care. I believe our country should be debt-free.
I don't believe in wars that benefit the corporate world at the expense of our young men and women, the use of fear to sway an opinion, the buying of a political office, leaders who lie and deceive us. I don't believe in an economy that favors the haves and ignores the have-nots.
I don't believe in a state religion or the forcing of religion on those who chose not to believe. I don't believe that "might makes right." I don't believe in a two-class society composed of the rich and the poor.
