A person standing next to a fire will only receive heat via radiation, not convection. Because heat rises, it would require a strong lateral air movement to heat the person via convection, otherwise the convective airflow carrying the heat is generally straight up, not sideways toward the person's position next to the fire.

Mostly by radiation - but if the person is really close the air will be heated up a bit by convection. I'd say it's more than 99% by radiation though.

yeah! i agree its both ways that is heating him. but it is infra red rays and not light. these rays are heat giving.
