Food. Americans (and developed countries in general) throw away 20% - 30% of all food.

We don't recycle that much. We waste water, especially in the Southwest where many imported plants are grown.
We buy items for short term use rather than long term.
We do not car pool and most cities don't have good public transportation.

Trying to solve problems they created ? Three example :- 1) Nuclear waste - Know how to used but do not know how to disposed. 2) Nuclear bomb make and do not know how to stop others from having and used 3) Iraqi War start from nothing but do not know how to end with nothing.(Lives ,machines and money loses)

We throw broken things out, rather than fix them. When was the last time you went to a TV repairman or a cobbler?

Why stop at one? There are so many!
Electric, leaving most electrical appliances on standby uses almost the same amount of electric as they do when on. That's a good one.

waste fuels, heavy engines(more than required) in cars and bikes.
waste electricity, advertisements.
