It's wonderful that you are instilling in your son a love for books. Have you begun reading "chapter books" to him? My granddaughter is five and loves chapter books. Her mom reads a chapter a night to her. A wonderful book is The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate Dicamillo. Adults love it, too. There are sad parts in it, but it ends happily. Have you read The Polar Express? James and the Giant Peach? Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?

A few books that my kids loved
What Faust Saw
Mucky Mabel
Lavender the Library Cat
Any of the DR. SUess books
Jillian Jiggs
Hippopotomus on the RooF Eating Cake
Also the book that Cory (or Tink)mentions I also have I purchased it for my son especially from myself and every time I read it to him I would almost cry as it is the most special story a mother could ever give her son. My son is 16 now and I can still imagine being a mother who would sneak into his room no matter what age he is to rock him in his sleep and sing those special words. (I dont really) And as in this book I think he may object if I drove across town and snuck into his house to rock him when he is a grown man. So am with you on that one Tink!

No No David, by David Shannon
Or
A Bad Case of the Stripes, by David Shannon
Zanthura,
Or
Jumanji, both by Chris Van Allsburg
The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales, by Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith (this book was written by a classroom full of kids and won a Caldicot or a Newberry award, I can't remember which...)
The Eloise books, about a little girl who really did grow up living in hotels around the world. The books are written by Hilary Knight.
Or my childhood favorites:
(Pickles) The Fire Cat,
Or
Jenny and the Cat Club, by Esther Averill
Try those. I think you will find them very entertaining and age appropriate.

I am making a fool out of myself because I can't remember the name of this book. Maybe someone will. It was very popular I think. It was about a bear that came to life in a dept store after it closed. God I loved that book so much when I was a kid.
Maybe Corderoy?

There are a few other books just like "Give a Mouse..."
"Give a Pancake to a Pig" is one, there's more, I know. Fairy tales are always good, usually just browsing your local library can help, even letting him look at the covers and picking something that he thinks he would like. You really can't go wrong, especially at such a young age. Just reading is good, I don't know where I would be if my parents hadn't read to me as much as they did...

The best book ive ever purchased was 'i love you forever' , i bougght this story for my son when he was 3 and read it to him everynight. Hes now 14 and had it in his room on his special shelf. The story is about a mother who has a baby and every night she tucked him and sang:
i love you forever
i like you for always
as long as im living
my baby youll be.
well in the story the boy grows up to be a man who eventually takes care of his mother and sings her that same song as he took care of her only changing it to say my mother youll be
