The CeleronD is a Neutered version of the pentium D and some instructions are disabled inside the chip which you can never enable like Hyper threading and Level 2 cache. And the Main thing is on a Celeron is usually has Half of its Level 2 Cache turned off due to being defective or just to supply demand for celeron. You will always see a performace gain with a pentium D. The celeron has 256kb or 512kb of Level 2 cache and runs at a FSB of 533 whereas the pentium D has 2mb cache and runs a Fsb of 800 which is Faster. Cache is a small storeage of memory for fequent used data if you don't have enough of it the pc can be sluggish. And the Pentium is aimed for Multitasking, Games, Video editing. If you ran that stuff on a celeron it will Lag in games and In video editing it will take alot longer to do the same thing regardless of how many Ghz is there. The front Side Bus does make a difference too for Data to move from Cpu to Ram which is another boost for Pentium D. I always Recommend the Pentium brand over celeron for these reasons.

the Celeron D has a smaller Cache than the Pentium 4, meaning the Celeron has to pool greater reminiscence from the RAM that's slower than making use of the cache on the CPU, so the Pentium 4 will seem greater responsive because of the fact it has an greater cache. Pentium 4 is greater desirable than Celeron D, hands down

Specifically, Celeron D processors support lower bus speeds, no hyperthreading, and less L2 cache compared to Pentium Ds.

Bus Speed
--------------------
Celeron D: 400 mhz
Pentium D: 400, 533, or 800 mhz

L2 Cache
---------------
Celeron D: 128KB
Pentium D: 256KB or 512KB

Hyperthreading
--------------------
Celeron D: No, not possible
Pentium D: Yes, depending on exact processor.

Celeron is known as the low-budgeters cpu. While it's benchtested and said as a 3.0ghz, it is far less superior in processing power and quality than just about ANY other cpu marked at the same processing. It's a substandard piece of hardware meant for people who can't afford real quality items.
