Age old question. Not really hard to answer. It's a given that the egg couldn't have appeared out of nowhere, so the chicken came first. Some chickens laid eggs and some didn't. But the original non-egg laying chicken that laid the first egg, got it right for the rest of chickendom.

Well the hen came first because the first living creatures were the microbes..and they united to form tissues.. organs and so on/ And so the hen was formed before the egg was laid

Take the question back to the dawn of life on earth. There were all these chemicals produced from volcanic reactions, changed by ultra-violet radiation and electrical storms. The chemicals combined under the influences of radiation, electricity from lightning and the addition of more chemicals from volcanic action.
The chemicals formed a primordial sludge in a nutrient rich environment. It was a a primitive organism that could replicate itself. It may not have looked like like a chicken, but in time we have chickens as we see them today. All Lay eggs and chicken breeders are still striving to achieve the best organism possible, just as that primordial sludge strived to achieve survival by adapting to environment.

i think the hen... we are products of millions of years' worth of chain of evolutions beginning from one-celled organisms to more complex ones. when the creatures resembling chickens evolved, they produced the egg cells from which their offspring are born, just like any other "higher" species that reproduce sexually. then time passed by slowly and then the modern domesticated hen emerged as we know today......so technically, the hen. right?

Technically, the egg.
Two "before-chickens" come together. Before-chickens have a DNA code of... AB. A chicken has a DNA code of AA. (This is entirely untrue, this is just to illustrate the explanation more clearly.) In order for a chicken to come out of the before-chickens, they must mate and happen to combine their DNA into AA. They lay an egg and it has a DNA strand of AA. The first chicken, in egg form.
