Please click on "My Answers" and review my remark on, "My man is trying not to drink and i need some help here?" This woman is in heavy denial, and she feels that...(her words) "he is an adult and as hard as it is for him he is just going to have to live without it (alcohol) if someone has sugar they don't stop going places that has sugar in their food they just eat what they are allowed and that it it...." Give me a thumbs up if you feel that I am right, and please excuse the bad grammar because that was not my quote.

I agree with you 100% Twogris, Douglas D., and Wifey. It is her co-dependency talking for her. I am hoping that not all Alanon meetings teach enabling behavior, such as this, or I am referring my clients' to the wrong place.

I agree with you. I have a similar situation now & i gave ultimatums. I also choose to help avoid trigger places. Sugar really isn't a good metaphor because we need sugar( carbs) to live. An alcoholic can not have just 1 drink. They have to quit all together. until they learn how to live with out the alcohol, they have to stay away from bars, parties, sport events, whatever it takes to get rid of that urge. I know the urge doesn't completely go away , but the beginning is the worst. my dad was an alcoholic, sorry still is. Adult or not alcoholism is a sickness. I'm gonna stop, I could type all night on this subject. I've dealt with it all my life.

OK, so I read your answer, & I gave you a "Thumbs Up".
I think she still has a lot of Co-Dependant thinking going on, with her trying to control his recovery through her actions.
She says she's going to Alanon, but she still hasn't "got it" yet.

She didn't say if he went into a treatment programme or if he's just toughing it out. If he went through treatment, then I would think she could feel more free to talk openly about his feelings & his triggers with him.
Anyway, I think I'll go back & throw in my 2 cents.
